Planet A-001

Star date 2224.328

I've come to the first planet in the sector of space that I've been commissioned to survey. I'm designating this Planet A-001. Got to start somewhere with the names, the people back home can come up with better ones later.

After entering into standard orbit, I started my survey. Scanners show that it has atoxic atmosphere. The temperature averages about 95 degrees Fahrenheit. From the calculations that the computer has come up with, the orbital period of the planet is around half an Earth year. It has a day night cycle of 48 Earth hours.

It's a very lush planet, mostly covered in a tropical forest. There isn't any clearing big enough for me to set down on the planet, so I'll have to make my observations from here. The plant cover is to dense to see much. I don't see any buildings or roads or anything that would suggest any civilized life. All that this planet seem to have is an abundance of plant life. There is one strange thing that I can see using the telescoping viewer. There are flowering plants floating in the air over the forest canopy. They have some kind of tuber structure in their roots that must make them float. It would be interesting to know why these flowers need to float over the trees to grow.

I'll send off my findings back to HQ before I turn in for the night. Maybe they'll send out an explorer ship with equipment to clear a landing zone. There's no telling what useful plants they might find in that dense canopy. I'm sure they'll want to study those floating flowers as well. Who knows, maybe by the time I come back this way I'll be able to land at a new base and pick some of those flowers for my self.

End of log.
